"I continue to believe that if children are given the necessary tools to succeed, they will succeed beyond their wildest dreams!"

David Vitter, U.S. senator

Dear Friends,

I have always had a passion to work with children. After completing a teachers’ degree I started working in a high school. Some years after that, I met a woman who had also been a teacher, but had changed careers and was working as the director of the Department of Social Services. At that time I too decided to change jobs and started working for the same department. It was while doing this job that I saw the need to have a centre for abandoned children.

The beginning of this dream was realised in April 1999, when with two other friends I rented a small house to accommodate 16 children who had been living on the streets. Looking back over the years there have been many mountains to climb, barriers to overcome, heartaches and joy, but at the heart of it all is the precious children.

Much has been achieved over the years. Today I continue to work for the department of Social Services and am the director of Trung Tâm Bảo Trợ Em Vũng Tàu (the Centre for Social Protection of Children), in which there are three centres. Without question this work could not have been accomplished alone. It is thanks to various government departments, local and foreign companies, charitable organizations and numerous individuals that I have met along the journey that have assisted in making the centres what they are today. Countless people have donated funds, gifts in kind and professional advice. Then there are also those who have donated their hearts and time to the children and continue to do so. To all these people to say thank you is not enough. I know that because of your kindness and generosity your lives will be enriched.

Each and every child has a story to tell. For the most part children have been either abandoned or brought to the centres because their mother’s or other relatives are unable to provide for them. I want these children to know that despite their circumstances that they are valued, greatly loved, cherished and that they can have hope for a bright future.

My desire is that this work will not only continue, but will expand as there are so many more children needing our care. It is because of the generosity of so many that we are able to provide vital services to some of the most vulnerable children in our society. If we can touch a child’s life and bring change and hope then we will make a difference in this world.
